House Renovations - Painting

We finally closed on our house May 14th. Since then, we have been going crazy getting the house ready for use to move in. All the bedrooms needed new paint and new carpet. We had to somehow fix the entry way to the house. The biggest part of the renovations is remodeling the kitchen.

Picking out paint colors was one of the hardest things to do. It helped that my parents had some left over paint called Pale Bamboo (Home Depot). We decided to use this paint in the master room, closet, and bath. It matches well with our bedroom theme of wildlife/outdoors. We have a black iron bathroom light with moose and trees on it. I found a nice bear shower curtain and mat. It matches our winter bed covering. I cannot wait to see how the room looks once everything is put together and set up.

To help us out in deciding the colors for the other rooms, we decided to make one room the guest/toy room and the other office/library. Tim picked out colors for the guest/toy room while I decided on colors for the other room. Tim ended up going with a blue called Summer Sky (Home Depot). It looks really good in the room. The closet will have a a lot of shelves being made so we can put the toys that Tim does not want little ones to play with, legos, puzzles, and games. There will also be room to hang clothes up for those that visit. My room colors are a bit different. I went with three walls of bashfully gray and one wall of an apple green. Everyone thought I was weird to go with those colors, but once the walls were painted, everyone seemed to like the colors. Since the closet is a big one, we decided to make the closet space into an office. One side will be my desktop and computer stuff while the other side will be my filing cabinets and shelves. I cannot wait to have this room set up for use. I will be needing it for when I teach a class this fall.

The hall bathroom we are keeping with a beach scene. I know everyone must have at least one beach scene bathroom. But it worked well with what we already have in the bathroom. A blue tub with a blue countertop and there was a baby blue sink. The walls are a very pale blue with beige cabinets. We decided on dark brown accent colors. The cabinets that were in the room were old and ugly and probably original. So we decided to repaint them and making them a lighter color. We also replaced the light fixture in this room. It was an old ugly one that drapes and has lights at the ends that look like pinecones. Definately had to go.

For the living room and the hallway, we decided to go with a light light beige. Not much different than what was on the walls, but it is more brown than pink.

The kitchen will have the living room color on the bottom with a green on the top half. The green matches the green glass tiles that we have for accents on the backsplash.

We also had to decide on a front door color. We went with a blue from Sherman Williams. When it is wet, it does not look the greatest, but once it dries, it is a perfect color.

We also painted the garage. Tim wanted a Dover White in the garage. Nothing fancy, but with new paint in the garage it looks a lot better.

We are on a strict budget, but we did go about $150 or so over budget for paint because we needed more primer to make sure those nasty colors the house was would not show. Same with ceiling paint.

The painting is pretty much done. We just need to paint the bottom half of the kitchen. The house looks completely different than what we bought it.

Next entry will be about the kitchen updates/remodel.
